Home Hong Kong Cafe, part 2

On our second visit to Home Hong Kong Cafe we decided to try a number of new dishes. The char siu (BBQ pork) did not look right at all. My heart sank a little as soon as I saw it. We gave it a try anyway and it tasted as inferior as it looked unfortunately. The spices were not right - too much star anise and not enough sweetness). The sauce was plain soya I suspect - so lazy and it's just not what I would expect from this place as our last experience was so good. Anyway to make things worse it arrived stone cold. 1 out of 10 (1 point for honouring our request for lean meat).

The Yangzhou fried rice didn't look right either. The ingredients were all below par: there was no sight of the regular stuff like prawns, BBQ pork, or chopped veg. Instead we had frozen pea + carrot, cheap ham and the worst of all, imitation crab meat!!! My first time. It tasted greasily bland and we were totally disappointed.

We ordered Singapore noodles again and it could only be described as mediocre. The dish had tasted a whole lot more flavourful and rich on our last visit in comparison. Even the color and the consistency were different. What was going on?

We got some pineapple buns as desserts and even they were not as good this time around. They were bordering on being stale. What gives?
